Clerkenwell Boy’s five favourite cheap eats

Five-ourites Clerkenwell Boy

@Clerkenwell_Boy has taken Instagram by storm with his continuous photos of heavenly food and booze from around our fabulous city. In this week’s 5ourites, the Australian-born foodie, who prefers to remain anonymous, lets us know his five favourite cheap eats around London for under a tenner…

1. Dishoom
Bacon and egg breakfast naan (£6.50), washed down with the bottomless house chai (£2.50). Breakfast doesn’t get much better than this – I love sitting in the sunny terrace of the Shoreditch branch. Ask for a side of chopped green chillies for an added kick start to your day.

2. Bone Daddies
Dipping ramen (£9) + “cock scratchings” (£1). Delicious yellow wavy noodles, with ni-tamago Clarence Court egg, bamboo, kizami nori, chashu pork with a bowl of chicken bone broth on the side for “dipping”. The “cock scratchings” are basically made from fried and blitzed crispy chicken skin with a few secret herbs and spices…delicious and completely addictive!

3. Bleecker Burger
Double cheeseburger (£9) with bacon (£1)…or..the signature #BleeckerBlack (£10). Bringing New York style burgers to the streets of London – these guys started out with one burger van and now can be found in several sites across London including a permanent burger shack at Old Spitalfields Market. The meat is aged, the buns are toasted, the cheese is American, the sauce is secret. If you can stretch the budget, order a side of Angry Fries with chilli and blue cheese sauce (£4).

4. Four Season Chinatown
2 combination barbecued meat on rice (£7.50). The roast duck (de-boned on request) and crispy belly pork are my absolute favourite. Don’t forget to ask for the plum sauce for the duck and the ginger and shallot infused oil for the pork.

5. Taberna do Mercado
Coffee (£2) and THAT custard tart (£2.50). My “go-to” mid-morning breakfast combo when I’m in a rush and have meetings around town. The tart has a crispy exterior but extremely oozy liquid centre so be careful when biting in!
